This is the Seventh post in a series of ongoing posts where we highlight one of the Aim Lab training challenges and modes. The goal is to give you a better idea of how it works and why it can improve your performance.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

This challenge is a lot like the Strafeshot task but the targets take 3 hits to destroy and the target will now rotate around you 360 degrees and circle you, changing directions randomly. After a 5 second countdown, the target will appear in the middle and strafe around randomly from left to right and even circle behind and beside you. The target orb will stay on screen until it is hit 3 times, the goal is to destroy as many of the moving targets as accurately as possible. Your gun will not shoot in this mode and this challenge lasts 60 seconds.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT CIRCLESHOT MODES/MAPS?

Circleshot currently has 3 modes, standard, speed, and precision. Speed mode will change and adapt the movement speed of the target depending on your performance, whereas Precision will change and adapt the target size. Standard will do both, adapting the speed and size of the target depending on your performance. It is currently only available in the Graybox environment.

WHAT DO YOU LEARN?

With the Circleshot task, you learn how to test and improve your ability to predict and track enemy targets. You will learn how to adapt to randomized movements and increases to speed and/or target size. Moving targets is one thing but targets that force you to turn and predict movements is a bit different and this will help improve your ability to take on targets that will move around you.

WHY WOULD I DO THIS?

The goal of the Circleshot challenges is to increase your aim and reactions on not only moving targets but targets that circle you and rotate. leading shots on a rotating target is much different and something you will come across in all fps games. This task, much like the others will also help identify and correct any spatial biases you may have. Just as many basketball players shoot better from one side of the floor compared to the other, gamers have spatial biases too. These biases can be subtle and difficult to notice and therefore difficult to correct. Aim Lab alleviates this problem by collecting objective data on your shots to help you identify and correct your biases quicker. For instance, do you attempt to guess which way your opponent may move and unknowingly lead your shots that way? Check out the results screen at the bottom of the post for more details!

Circleshot: Precision mode in Graybox environment with pistol. The target orb will decrease in size based on your performance. This will help train accuracy above all else and is perfect for the pistol or revolver. Both third person and first person are available for Circleshot as well as aiming down the sights and hip firing.

Circleshot: Speed mode in Graybox environment with Auto rifle. The target will increase its speed more and more as your performance increases. As shown in the video above, the more and faster you destroy the targets, the more its movement speed increases. This mode is great for automatic weapons where spray and pray won’t save you and you’ll still be forced to keep up with a fast and erratic target.

Circleshot: Results. After each time you perform a Circleshot challenge, you get instant results on your performance for KPS (Kills per second) SPK (Shots per kill) and TPK (Time per kill) along with an accuracy percentage. Your overall kills and shots taken will also be displayed and all of these stats add up to give you a performance score. Your performance is also compared to your average performance on the task and lets you view improvement across time and added to the leaderboards so you can compare with other players as well. The Error Bias graph shows circles that represent the screen space around the target, and the numbers in each circle indicate how many shots you missed within that target area.
